With my first wife
After high school, I went to college to learn electrical engineering. However, during my first semester I joined a fraternity. Unfortunately, that was a bad move. I did not do well in my Calculus class. However, I didn’t feel bad since 35 out of 45 didn’t do well either. I dropped out of school since the next year didn’t get any better, so
I got married right after leaving school and started working at a steel mill on the internal railroad shifting cars. This wasn’t for me after one winter outside. So, I went to a computer programming school for 6 months with no computers. The instructor acted like a computer and checked our programs.
After school, I transferred into the office at my steel mill where I was a computer operator. I was an operator for about 6 months and was moved into programming. There I became fascinated with the operating system that was on the mainframe. I became a system programmer. I worked there for 25 years, and I was let go because the boss and I didn’t see eye to eye.
During the 25 years, my wife and I had 5 kids but sadly the first one, a boy, died at 9 1/2 months old. The other 4 were all girls. My wife sadly passed away.
With my second wife
While working for a computer outsourcing company, I remarried to a woman who had 3 boys. I spent 28 years with the company and retired Oct 31, 2017.
After retiring I didn’t know what to do with myself. My wife and I traveled but only for drivable vacations because neither one of us wanted to deal with flying: still don’t.
Our middle son married and had 3 kids. However, he couldn’t take care of them, so in January of 2019, we began raising 3 grandkids: 2 boys with autism and a girl with extreme anxiety.
I still didn’t know what to do, although my wife and I were quite busy. But I needed something to help me relax so I started blogging as a hobby. I can’t say much about how it is going yet because I am still learning. I will keep you posted
